Introduction

Learning how to use Slack is crucial to optimizing your experience with SoleSavy. In addition to bringing together passionate sneakerheads like yourself, Slack is a tool that will help you have a better chance at copping the drops and restocks that you’ve got your eye on. With Slack, you’ll have instant notifications for when there’s a drop or restock, and Slack also has multiple channels for you to join so that you have access to other exclusive content.

For example, there are channels that you’ll automatically be a part of, like our announcements channel, but then you can also customize your notifications by joining channels like “Sizing” or “Legit-check.” Join specific channels to be instantly alerted whenever there’s a post regarding the things you’re interested in.

Now that you have a general idea of how you can benefit from Slack, you’ll want to read the sections below for more detailed information.

How to Join the Community on Slack

Of course, you’ll need to download the app before you can take advantage of Slack’s benefits. You can download the slack on your mobile device or desktop.

How to Turn Notifications On

It’s very important to have your notifications turned on because that’s the only way you’ll be notified the second that there’s a drop or restock. If you don’t have the notifications turned on, you’ll easily take a lot of Ls.

To turn on notifications for any particular channel, click on the desired channel. At the top, you will see the channel name with a drop down arrow.

Click on the drop down arrow, and you will see an option that lets you alter your notifications. You can select “All Messages”, “Mentions,” or “Nothing.”

“All Messages” will give you a notification for every message that is posted in that channel. “Mentions” will give you a notification anytime someone addresses you in that channel. An example would be if someone sends a message using @<your name> or @channel or @here. “Nothing” will turn off notifications for that channel.

You can also “Mute” the channel which will turn off all notifications until you choose to unmute.

In addition, you can click on “More notification options.” This will give you the option to make the settings you selected consistent whether you’re using your desktop/laptop or the Slack app on your phone. To make things consistent, you will want to make sure ‘Use different settings for mobile devices’ is not selected.

Channels to Have Notifications on

The channels below are channels we would highly recommend having notifications for.

#announcements-releases - This is where we post all information about upcoming releases including release guides and raffle information. In this channel, we also send out notifications for when a queue goes live on any particular site at drop time.

#announcements-solesavy - This is where we post information on any training sessions and contests that are hosted by SoleSavy.

The Channels below are channels we would consider optional to have notifications turned on for. Depending on the channels you select, you also may want to only have notifications on for whenever there are “Mentions.”

#support - This is where we post information about our pre-cart method as well as other tips and tricks to help you be successful on drop day. We also use this channel to address any questions that members may have.

#monitor-checkpoint - This is a monitor channel that tells you when a website turns on bot protection. The channel also alerts you whenever a site puts up or takes down their password page. This gives you a distinct advantage for shock drops.

#monitor-filtered - This is a monitor used for shoes that are ‘hyped’. This will give you a notification if a store drops any Dunks, Jordan 1 Hi OG, Yeezys, and much more.

For all other channels, we don’t necessarily recommend having notifications turned on. That being said, you are more than welcome to curate the slack experience to your needs.

When customizing your channels, keep in mind that less is always more. You can learn more about the channels here.

How to Thread and React to a Post

You must thread in all channels except for #live-release-chat (a channel used to discuss an upcoming drop at the time of the drop). Threading is commenting on a post under the original post instead of posting a separate comment in response to that first post. This helps to keep the channels looking nice and clean.

If no one has replied to a post, you can be the first one to comment by hovering your mouse over the post and clicking on the dialogue box at the top right corner of the post. This will allow you to comment and begin the thread.

If someone has already commented on the post, you can click on the “# replies” link toward the bottom of the post. This will allow you to add your comment on the post along with the others.

Finally, if you would like to react to a post, you can do this by clicking the add reaction at the top right of the post, and this will allow you to add your chosen reaction.

By now, you should have a good understanding of Slack. So, it’s time to learn more! To start catching those drops, please watch the tutorials here.
