These guidelines have been created to help provide members with protection and transparency during transactions. They DO NOT guarantee a successful transaction, but following them will definitely help increase your odds SIGNIFICANTLY. That said, always use caution and never do a deal if you don’t feel right about it. If you have any questions at all, please reach out to your Community Leader.
IMPORTANT: Any issues during any deal should be brought to your Community Leader immediately. Please provide evidence (screenshots, etc) and our team will evaluate the situation.
Before You Start...
ADD A PHOTO AND YOUR ACTUAL NAME TO YOUR PROFILE: We highly encourage everyone to add a photo and at least your first name (full name is even better) to your Slack profile. This helps build trust and creates accountability amongst members. Using the default Slack profile graphic and only having a username in your profile (with no real name showing) suggests you’re trying to hide something and makes it less likely for people to want to deal with you.
Buying and selling are two of the most popular activities our members do within the community. If you’d like to do either, please read carefully:
When Posting...
HOW TO POST: Your posts in #sell-for-retail-or-less should look like this…
ONLY ASK FOR WHAT YOU PAID OR LESS. When listing a price, it’s fine to ask for retail + any shipping or tax that you paid. If you paid resale, you can still list here, but you can only ask for what you paid or less, and you must post a screenshot or photo of an itemized receipt as proof that you paid that much.
ONLY POST IN #SELL-FOR-RETAIL-OR-LESS. If you post items for sale in any other channel and the price is above retail, your post will be deleted.
ONLY POST SHOES/APPAREL THAT YOU OWN. If you don’t own the shoes and have them in your possession, please do not list them for sale here.
IF THE SHOES/APPAREL ARE USED, ADD CLEAR AND DETAILED PICTURES. Please post well-lit and clear photos of the shoes/apparel. Show all sides of both shoes (including the outsole) as well as the box.
When Making a Deal...
WANT A WITNESS? If you would like your Community Leader to witness the transaction for peace of mind, just DM them directly and they’ll open up a group DM that includes all parties involved. While not required, we highly recommend doing this to provide the most visibility and transparency for your transaction.
EVERYONE SHOULD BE USING PAYPAL INVOICE. We can’t stress this enough. PayPal Invoice provides excellent third-party protection for both buyers and sellers. And yes, it adds around 3% in fees to the transaction for the seller, but it’s well worth it for the protection against scams (the buyer and seller can decide who pays the fees, but we suggest you split them because you both benefit from using the invoice). If the member/seller you’re buying from suggests that you use any other payment method, it is a RED FLAG. Payment methods like Venmo, Zelle, Cash App, or any kind of e-transfer offer little to no protection for buyers. Can people still try to scam you with PayPal? Yep, but it’s a lot harder. So please be smart and don’t let your want for shoes cloud your judgement. Learn more about using PayPal Invoice.
(Btw, PayPal Goods and Services payments offer similar protection, but using Invoice creates even more record of the sale and allows you to make notes to specify the details of the deal (the type of shoes, shipping deadline, etc), that can only help if a dispute occurs)
TAKE SCREENSHOTS OF CONVERSATIONS. Because Slack archives past conversations in the channels and DMs after a week or two, you need to be taking screenshots of conversations so that if a dispute does happen, you’ll have a record of what was said. If you don’t know how to screenshot, just Google “how to screenshot [insert your device name]”.
SELLERS SHOULD PROVIDE DETAILED PICTURES. Just telling someone that you have a pair of DS size 11 Jordan 1 Mochas isn’t enough for a deal. Sellers should be providing detailed pics of the shoes + the box (if included) even if it’s all in perfect DS condition. Sellers should also be including a piece of paper with their Slack screen name + that day’s date to prove that the pics are theirs.
AGREE ON A DATE AND TIME TO SHIP + PROVIDE TRACKING INFO. The timing can be flexible if you both agree on it, but please be respectful and meet whatever time/date is agreed upon.
SELLERS SHOULD USE APPROPRIATE PACKAGING. Double box and use packing material to help fill the box so the shoes don’t bounce around inside. Never just use a mailing bag or just ship the shoebox itself…don’t be that person.
SELLERS SHOULD INSURE THEIR PACKAGES. This can add to the cost, but we highly suggest that you insure the package so that you can recover the full value of the shoes if they get lost, stolen, or severely damaged in transit. If that happens, you’ll be required to refund the money to the buyer, so this is for your peace of mind (note: please don’t ask the buyer to pay for insurance…it’s for you, not them).
SELLERS SHOULD PROVIDE A PICTURE OF THE SHIPPING LABEL. This picture should show the both addresses, weight of the box, and tracking number clearly.
BUYERS SHOULD BE PROMPT WITH PAYMENT. Payment should be within 24 hours of both sides agreeing on a deal. Don’t make sellers wait for payment and don’t ask to pay in multiple payments. If you can’t afford the full payment right now, please don’t try to buy them.
SELLERS SHOULD BE PROMPT WITH SHIPMENT. Packages should be dropped off by the end of the next business day after payment is received. Any extenuating circumstances that would delay drop off (weather, personal issues, etc) should be communicated to the buyer and an alternate deadline should be agreed upon by both sides.
CANCELLING A SALE/PURCHASE. Keeping your word and following through on deals is extremely important to maintaining a good reputation within the SoleSavy community. That said, we understand that some deals end up falling through for good reasons. But if you cancel a deal for any reason, your membership will be immediately reviewed by SoleSavy. After review, if your conduct is deemed detrimental to the community, you may be given a possible ban from future transactions or even a full termination of your account. Take these deals seriously.
